System expansion

Also called substitution method

Avoiding allocation by giving the main product a credit for the product its co-product displaces elsewhere. Soybean meal, for example, earns a credit for the feed protein it replaces. The result depends heavily on which product is assumed to be displaced and can even turn negative.
