Indirect land-use change
Land clearing that happens elsewhere because fuel demand diverts crops from food and feed markets, raising prices and pulling new land into production. It cannot be observed directly and is estimated with economic models. Published ILUC values for vegetable oils run from about 7 to more than 230 g CO₂e/MJ, wider than the entire direct footprint.
