Emission factor

A conversion rate that turns an activity into emissions, for example the share of applied nitrogen fertilizer that escapes as N₂O. The IPCC's 2019 update set 1.6 percent for synthetic nitrogen in wet climates and 0.5 percent in dry ones, replacing a single 1 percent.
